In conjunction with JASM don't miss this incredible art exhibit, Women + Water: A Global Exhibit taking place on the DeVos Place skywalk May 15-19, 2022.
This art exhibit by weaver Mary Burns reverences water
through handwoven jacquard portraits of women who work with water, protect it
and advocate for it. The exhibit celebrates scientists, water-walkers,
teachers, farmers, activists, and healers from around the globe. Like the
interlacement of streams, weaving is an intermingling of fibers, making fiber
art a natural medium for this work.
20 woven portraits are on display at JASM from Sunday
th through Thursday morning, May 19th. The
exhibit will be held in the
DeVos Place’s Skywalk Gallery.
As part of the project, Mary has worked with University of
Wisconsin-Trout Lake Limnology Station, as well as the Wisconsin Arts Board.
